Shabnam was a PhD candidate in Biomedical Engineering at University of Toronto under the supervision of Dr. Alex Mihailidis and Dr. Jennifer L. Campos. Shabnam's PhD thesis looks at the use of automated vehicles as assistive technology by older adults living with or without dementia. She comes from a background in Electrical Engineering where her undergrad research was focused on Brain-Computer Interfaces in applications of emotion recognition and prosthetics control. Her research interests are broadly around in questions related to the human compatibility of artificial intelligence to expand the abilities of people living with impairments.

AGE-WELL Impact Challengre: CalEO Smart Paper-like Calendar Product Video CalEO is a new interface, specifically designed for older adults aiming to improve their social connectedness. CalEO looks like a regular paper wall calendar; however, being equipped with e-ink technology, it provides the functionalities of an electronic calendar and even more.
