Project Overview
The purposes for this project are to describe a viable business model for an exciting new web-based service for helping seniors who are living at home in Ontario and Quebec do safe and effective selection of assistive devices (called SmartAssist). Potential models include government coverage or co-payment and direct-to-consumer marketing, achieved through the creation of a Canadian based company. A decisionsupport service of this kind is badly needed but there is no information currently available on how it may be set up to be a commercially successful enterprise in Canada. The project is expected to produce a business plan that meets the highest standards set by AGE WELL which will help ensure the commercial success of this technology. Given the increasing importance of technologies to help seniors manage their disabilities at home, our approach to business development should have general application to other similar AGE-WELL products and services.
