Safe for Elders Learning CircleSafe for Elders, Safe for all is an initiative supported by the Nlaka’pamux Nation Tribal Council, 6 First Nation communities within the Fraser Canyon, and the Fraser and Interior Health Authorities. It began as a participatory research project to examine the high incidence of falls and injury within First Nation populations. Among other things, the research project pointed out the need for the development of a broad range of falls and injury prevention resources to support Elders. With funding from the Interior Health Authority and support from the Fraser Health Authority, our consortium developed a calendar, a brochure, posters, a BINGO game, and a website, and are currently working on a game for children and youth. Our intention is to reach people of all ages and in doing so, reduce the high incidence of falls. These resources are available at www.safeforelders.com and can easily be adapted to meet the needs of any community. In addition to resources, we have established some wonderful partnerships. Join our webinar and find out more about our research, our resources, and our great relationships!5.2 PRED-FALL Fraser Health | KTEE - Knowledge Mobilization | 2017-10-29

Purpose:
We report the findings of a knowledge synthesis research project on the topic of dementia-friendly acute care (D-FAC) design. This exploratory project systematically mapped what is known about D-FAC physical design in hospitals. We discuss our challenges in locating reportable evidence and the implications of such design for maximizing independent function while ensuring safety and harm reduction in older people living with dementia.5.2 PRED-FALL Fraser Health, Simon Fraser University | Scientific Excellence - Advancing Knowledge | 2016-11-09

CSA Express Document on Hip Protectors (EXP08-17)Wearable hip protectors are used to reduce the risk of hip fracture in the event of a fall. This Express Document addresses the need for a method to measure the protective value of hip protectors in the laboratory setting. We review practical issues related to the use of hip protectors and describe a method for measuring the reduction in force applied to the bone provided by hip protectors during a simulated fall.5.2 PRED-FALL, PCHT Simon Fraser University, Fraser Health | KTEE - Knowledge Mobilization | 2017-04-17
